EFT Tapping is Fantastic for Helping with Anxiety

What is EFT Tapping?

Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT) otherwise known as tapping is best likened to acupuncture without the needles. It’s an ancient Chinese acupressure therapy combined with a modern talking psychology. Meridian points are gently stimulated by light touch, while talking through the problem or issue that needs to be worked on.

Psychological and emotional issues connected to negative emotions can be released with tapping.

At a very basic level, it is an amazing stress reduction tool, by lowering the stress hormone, cortisol. This has been measured in scientific research. Tapping is an energy therapy, we tap directly on meridian points which are connected with organs in the body. Thus the energetic connection is broken which is keeping us stuck.

How does tapping work with anxiety?

When we are experiencing any form of anxiety, we go into a state of fight or flight. The body is preparing us for danger, a threat either real or perceived. You will feel anxiety in your body, perhaps in your stomach, chest or head. So a thought (which is in our head) will create a feeling (in the body). This is all done so at a subconscious level. It can often be a familiar, habitual pattern of behaviour. We make experience shakes, physiological sensations, sweaty palms, a racing heart, fear and panic. The severe end of this scale may result in panic attack.

We aren’t generally born feeling anxiety. We pick it up somewhere along the way, thus it’s a learned behaviour, that we internalise. Something can then trigger this. It can form part of who we are: ‘I suffer with anxiety’. This then becomes a belief about who we are. We think we have to live with it and often hope to keep it under control.

Fight or flight

What tapping does, is works on the fight or flight response. It works with a part of the brain called the amygdala that is responsible fo controlling the fight or flight response and where negative emotions are encoded. It sends a calming signal to this part of the brain. Thus, we can stop feeling the anxiety.

Tapping works as an amazing self help tool, so any feelings of anxiety that arise, you can tap on it straight away. This will then lower the feelings of anxiety, thus putting you in control. Or if you find yourself in an anxiety provoking situation, you can use tapping to help calm down these feelings and bring them right down.

Working with an experienced clinician or practitioner, you work at a much deeper level. During sessions the root cause of the anxiety is also worked on. This may often be linked to old beliefs and unhelpful partners of behaviour. Once this is done,

Anxiety can then be a thing of the past and often much quicker than you might think. We work in a very gentle way, in the here and now.

What tapping also cleverly does, is rewires the brain. There are signals being sent to the amygdala about the anxiety provoking situation (real or perceived). With tapping, these signals are interrupted. A new response is created. One of calm and safety, rather than one of threat or real or perceived danger. The neural pathways make new connections and signal safety, thus changing the presenting behaviour.

The thing with tapping is, it can look strange, and very simple, but it works! I’ve seen hundreds of clients who have a range of mental health and mindset issues that have been resolved with tapping.

Success stories

I reviewed the success of a recent client I was working with. This client came to me with severe anxiety and had been struggling for many years. They had tried a number of different previous therapies, including CBT. To no avail. They came to me desperate, as a last resort.

When we reviewed how far they had come, I asked them where their anxiety was at a percentage before we started working together, they replied, 97%. I asked what it was now. I was expecting a reply of 20-30%, they said 3%! Some weeks later, they remain free from all anxiety and their life is completely different.

This is the good news. You don’t need to suffer with anxiety

What has anxiety got to do with social media?

I caught up with my friend recently. As we chatted about what we had been up to, and he told me he had decided to take himself off all social media. Having had a very large following on Instagram, he decided to remove his account from his phone and restrict his checking in to 15 minutes a week.

This happened around four months ago. It has already changed his life beyond recognition. Before, he may have reported anxiety anywhere from up to 8/10. Since he came off all social media, this has reduced his anxiety right down to a 2/10! How amazing is that in only four months?!

My friend told me before he would be constantly comparing himself to others. Thinking others had a better life than him, or a better standard or quality of life. (Bearing in mind, my friend has one awesome life! – He’s got an amazing family, job and social circle, to name but a few). Whereas now he isn’t doing. He feels this area of his life has changed so much. He finds he cares much less about other people, and their lives, and their possible ‘perfect’ portrayal of them on social media.

He has also found he is more present. He is more in the now, and is less into anxiety, stress or worry.

People can often provide inaccurate portrayals of life on social media. It can then be easy to fall into the thought cycle of ‘my life isn’t so good, others lives are perfect, why can’t I have what they’ve got’. So on and so forth. We often obsess ourselves with other peoples lives and what they are perceived to have, rather than focus on the successes, happinesses and achievements in our own lives. The old adage, ‘Keeping up with the Jones’.

So, how is your current social media usage looking, how does it affect you, what can you do differently, and what difference will it make to your life?

Do you resonate with any of the following anxieties? –

  • Other peoples lives look better than mine
  • I’ve not got enough ‘likes’
  • Other people are having so much more fun than me
  • Other people are so much more attractive, better looking then me

You get the picture. What we are doing is comparing ourselves to others, rather than being in the moment and enjoying what our life has to offer. There is also often a very inaccurate portrayal of peoples ‘real’ lives on social media. Any posts will be more likely to focus on amazing parts of peoples lives, rather than the actual reality.

So have a think about how social media is affecting you and what you can do differently. Can you spend less time on there? Can you restrict the times you go on to certain points in the day? Can you have a trial where you go off completely, and see how life looks as a result?

Do let me know how you get on, I’d be really interested to hear the results!

You don’t have to suffer with anxiety

I absolutely love what I do. Why? Because of this. I have clients who come to see me who have suffered with long term anxiety, some for years, well over ten years or more. Within a matter of sessions, symptoms will shift profoundly.

Anxiety is an area that I specialise in. Clients can suffer with any physical symptoms such as panic attacks, not wanting to go in spaces were there are lots of people, and there can be a number of debilitating symptoms which can have huge negative impacts on someones life.

Within a short space of sessions, I see the symptoms of anxiety within clients who have suffered with this on a long term basis completely dissipate and dissolve. This is to the point where they feel like a different person. Back to their old selves prior to suffering with this issue that has been keeping them stuck for years. How rewarding is that!

I saw a new client recently who had seen such dramatic shifts in another client who I had worked with whom she knew through a friend of hers. So she wanted to come and work with me herself.

Within a short space of time, we were able to start releasing some of those old emotions and patterns that had been keeping her completely stuck. So much shifted and with that a massive amount of relief was experienced from my client.

I often liken anxiety to carrying a load of old bags around. When you come back off holiday and you are waiting at the luggage carousel for your suitcases, you don’t get all the suitcases off the carousel and make the decision to carry them all round on your shoulders for the foreseeable future do you? However, we do this with anxiety, worry, stress and other related behaviours. We are literally carrying round a load of old stuff that we don’t need. And guess what? – That is going to become uncomfortable and painful for a years and years!

Trust me, you don’t need to suffer

Who would make the decision to continue to carry on holding to all this old behaviours or patterns? What is the value to you if you make the decision to let it go? It may feel a struggle on your own, but I can help. You can’t put a price or a value on removing anxiety for good. You simply don’t need it any more.

If you want to know any more about how with my help, you can remove anxiety and all those awful symptoms related to anxiety once and for all, drop me a message, we can set up a free initial chat.

The most common thing most of my clients say is this “I wish I had come to see you sooner”

Can anxiety cause you to feel depressed?

How do you feel when you get anxious? Do you feel anxiety somewhere in your body? Do you experience similar thoughts and feelings? Is it a familiar pattern? Would you like to get off this cycle and instead feel calm relaxed and in control? If you resonate with any of this and you are reading this article because you suffer with anxiety or any of the related feelings, then read on.

What is anxiety?

Anxiety is the fear or apprehension of a real or perceived threat. It is a state of worry or panic. Physiological and physical symptoms are experienced. Anxiety is completely normal and is commonplace in a number of situations, for example an exam, a driving test or a job interview. However, too much anxiety can cause distress and can be highly debilitating.

Some people may have an identifiable cause for anxiety for example the loss of a loved one, a traumatic incident, or a significant life event such as moving house or getting divorced. Others don’t have an identifiable cause and it can be caused by a number of issues including post traumatic stress, obsessive compulsive disorder, or social phobias. The symptoms will most likely be very similar. The physiological feelings that can be experienced include increased heart rate, dizziness, feeling sick, difficulty breathing.

Prolonged periods of anxiety can be debilitating. When it interferes with daily life it can impact in a number of ways. Common forms of anxiety come in the form of anxiety disorders or panic attacks. They can come on and be triggered out of nowhere. Leaving you feeling out of control, worried, upset, low or disorientated.

It can also cause feelings of constant worry and apprehension. This can then become cyclical in nature, leading to further feelings of frustration and helplessness.

How does anxiety manifest?

When we are in a constant state of stress whereby we are triggering the fight or flight response, this is when anxiety can occur. Or should I say signs and symptoms of anxiety. Our bodies can deal with a certain amount of stress and of course some stress is good for us. However if we are on constant stress alert, the body is flooded with stress hormones, that will then put us into a state of distress. The body literally cannot cope, so we then form feelings of anxiety which then lead to the physiological symptoms I referred to earlier.

So does anxiety cause you to feel depressed?

Anxiety and depression can often go hand in hand. However the two are not the same, as they are two different disorders. One can often lead to feelings of the other and visa versa. Often feelings of anxiety can lead to feeling low, helpless or upset. So, anxiety can lead to the development of depression and related symptoms.

Don’t continue to suffer

What I would say, is look to seek support or help now. There are many different types of support packages out there to help. You don’t need to suffer alone. There are ways you can completely eradicate the symptoms of anxiety for good.

I have been helping suffers of anxiety for a number of years. This is an area I specialise in. I help you to remove anxiety quickly and simply from your life, for good. I also teach a simple self help tool that allows you to instantly get off the hormones of stress, by immediately calming down the stress response, or the fight or flight. This also removes all those old anxiety behaviours. This is something that you can use in any situation, to enable you to immediately feel calm, secure an in control.

Imagine a life where you no longer suffered with any feelings of anxiety? How free you would feel as a result and how different your life would be!

On the other hand, imagine what the costs would be if you continue to live a life that is ruled by anxiety and you’re feeling totally out of control as a result? How would this debilitate you even further, and what would the costs be to you and others?
I can help. I can talk through some simple strategies that you can use to enable you to move forward. You don’t need to suffer alone for a moment longer.
