Gill approached me to help her as she was struggling with stress, negative thought patterns and worries that were affecting both her personal and professional life. She found she was unable to concentrate for long periods of time and was often experiencing overwhelm and low mood that was getting in the way of her enjoying life. She also talked about her poor relationship with food that she wanted to work on. This had all become a familiar pattern and she didn’t know how to change.

As assessment and diagnosis revealed Gill was experiencing stress, which had built up over a period of time. This was having a negative impact both  psychologically and behaviourally.

The work


I used a combination of techniques with Gill. We used a hypnotherapy and tapping/ EFT. Both these strategies work well together, as they work directly with the subconscious part of the mind, so we can get directly into the limiting beliefs that has been keeping the client stuck and also address the behaviour that are connected to stress. 
When we are in a state of high stress, we are in fight or flight. Our bodies can often become flooded with the stress hormone cortisol. So we need to practice techniques to lower this and also get to the root cause to eliminate the underlying issue that is causing the repetitive stressful thoughts and responses.

I introduced Gill to EFT Tapping. This is a self help technique that works directly with the part of the brain that controls the fight or flight stress response. Once we start tapping, we send a calming signal to this part of the brain. We gently tap on certain meridian points around the face and upper body while talking through the presenting issue.

What tapping does is lowers the stress hormone cortisol, which has been measured through clinical trials. It also rewires neural pathways in the brain and works on specific events that are causing the patterns in behaviour and the tendency to hold onto and focus on negative thoughts.  During sessions with a practitioner, we get into the deep causes of the issue in order to help eradicate presenting behaviours. The client is also taught the technique so they can use it as a self help tool to work through any stressful situation that may arise.

In Gill’s case, she started noticing changes very quickly. Her stress lowered dramatically within four weeks. Once she noticed going into a stressful thought pattern or something similar, she would start tapping for herself. This then got her out of the stressful funk which would have otherwise led her into a pattern of negative thinking and destructive, self sabotage behaviours.

We also used tapping for Gill’s relationship in relation to some poor food choices she was making. These increased when she was feeling stress. Gill used tapping directly on food cravings. These lowered immediately, distracted her and took her out of the immediate food craving, stopping her going to eat those familiar foods that were bad for her!

Gill experienced dramatic changes with the work we did together. Stressful thoughts were a thing of the past. Instead, she was in a much more calm and relaxed space. The need to worry and feelings of overwhelm went from a familiar, regular feeling to one of happiness and contentment. Gill found she was able to concentrate much more clearly and was able to focus on tasks. Not only did her relationships with others improve, but the relationship she had with herself.

Gill was able to make huge shifts during sessions and was able to utilise practical strategies in between sessions to manage stress for herself, leading to life change. She went from being a person who’s life was blighted by negative thought patterns and behaviours to one of contentment and happiness.
