Look after our pets, look after us?

My dog has been really unwell recently. So far, my vet bill has come in at £1,500. Luckily the majority of it has been covered by the insurance. Aside from that however, I haven’t thought twice about handing over my hard cash to the vet, so they can sort out the pooch problems and help get my dog well again. And neither would you. We pay what we need to, in order to ensure our pets are healthy and well.

 

When it comes to our own well-being or health however, are we prepared to put in the investment? Do we think nothing of the costs, and put our health first? I think in many cases, we tend not to. We would rather spend our money on seemingly ‘quick fixes’ in the pursuit of happiness. Things such as a football season ticket, a night out, some new clothes, a holiday. These spends might sure feel good at the time. However, unless we work with the route cause of how we are feeling within ourselves, it is unlikely anything is going to change, in the longer term.

 

Another way of looking at it is this. When you go to the supermarket and buy the weekly shopping, you my buy the essentials such as milk and bread, pick them off the shelf and put them in your trolley.

 

However, you can’t buy these things off the shelf – confidence, success, self esteem or happiness. These come from somewhere else. They come from the inside out. You will find it highly unlikely to improve these areas of your life from external validation either.

 

So, we are happy to pay whatever we need to the vet, to ensure our pets are happy and safe. But how do we look after ourselves?

 

Indecently, those who invest in personal development in whatever shape or form, are those people who succeed and do well in life. They are constantly improving themselves, while helping to eradicate old limiting beliefs that no longer serve them any more.

How can hypnotherapy help me?

Have you ever thought about going to see a hypnotherapist, but wondered if it would help? Have you heard of an amazing report from someone you know who went to see a hypnotherapist, so thought about giving it a try? Are there tons of myths about hypnotherapy that make you feel unsure? Do you have any anxieties about booking in to see a hypnotherapist? Do you wonder how something like hypnotherapy can help with a big issue that has been part of your life for too long?

 

These are some of the areas I want to help you clarify and I will dispel some myths too. By the time you have finished reading this article, you will have a better understanding of hypnotherapy and how it can help you.

 

First and foremost, we are in hypnosis for around 85% of the day. It is a simply a day dreamy state. So imagine some of the following – driving along the motorway, watching tv, listening to a friend on the telephone, scrolling through facebook. Your mind is kind of elsewhere, right? Drifting off all over the place. Sound familiar? Or if I asked you to think of a memory of the past, i.e. what was the colour of your first car, or what was the name of your first pet? You aren’t consciously thinking of these things the whole time, however, when asked to recall a past event or memory, you will trawl through your mind (the subconscious part) to access that memory.

The word hypnosis simply means a relaxed state whereby you go in and out of your internal world, accessing it the whole time throughout the day. Your internal world (your mind) and the external world (everything outside of you) co-exist.

Lets have a quick look at the mind. The mind is made of two parts. The conscious mind (around 5%) and the subconscious mind (95%).

It is very hard to make lasting changes at a conscious level. Don’t get me wrong, we can make change consciously. However, there has to be a firm intention and tons of energy behind it. Think of bad habits for example. Why do so many persist in the same bad habits for years on end, knowing deep down its no good for them?

Change can process at a much quicker rate if we actually get past the conscious mind and get into the subconscious mind. Hypnosis words with this part of the mind. The mind is extremely powerful and much of time time it gets underused. However, the other difficulty is, we don’t like change and we often resist change. It’s easier to keep ourselves stuck in the same old habits or routine, keeping us in the past if you will.

You might actually say, I love change, change happens all the time, and I am adaptable to new challenges and changes. This is however just the conscious stuff, which only represent 5% of who were are and incidentally where will-power exists.

If everything in your life here and now is perfect and you are completely content, I am super duper happy for you. However, is there something you do want to change, big or small? Wish you were slimmer and trim? Want to be in an exciting job that fulfils all your needs? Want to feel calm and relaxed and get out of the familiar feelings of stress or anxiety? Want to be financially abundant or attract a great relationship?

If you identify with any of the above or something similar, why do we find it so hard to achieve these changes we so desire, and end up leading a life of quiet desperation?

We form most of our core beliefs from a young age. Even before our conscious mind has had chance to develop yet. Some beliefs are standard and serve us well. However some keep us stuck. You may had heard the term ‘limiting beliefs’. This is what they are. Then when our conscious mind develops from around the age of 6, these beliefs stay there, nice and cosy. Then they become familiar to who we are. Then as we get older and into adulthood, we search for evidence to support these beliefs. (By the way, this is all done at a subconscious level, so we are not consciously aware we are doing it the majority of the time). Then we repeat similar patterns over and over. Also, certain events can often trigger these old beliefs too.

So how can hypnotherapy work? I help clients, in a really relaxed way get into the old subconscious beliefs, to help shift the old programmes and patterns that have been hanging around. It’s like reprogramming the mind. A modern neurological term for this would be neuroplasticity. The mind is adaptable, it’s not fixed. However, we tend to hold onto an old patten from the past because its easier to repeat the same old familiar stuff.

It’s really easy and effective, and quick too! Fears and phobias are resolved in 3-4 sessions, confidence, self esteem and public speaking similar, anxiety, stress and depression a little longer, depending on what we want to work on. Either way, its relaxed and informal, and you do the work along with me guiding you in the right direction. Clients report time and time again how much they enjoy sessions and how happy they are with the benefits in such a short space of time, when they had spent a life time struggling prior to sessions.

 

So many clients often say the same thing – the only regret they had was not coming to see me much sooner and how totally different they feel as a result.
